Summary: William and Emmeline DAVIES sailed from Plymouth in 1853 on the "Earl Grey" with their children Mary Ann (4), John (3) and William (2). Their fourth child Emilien was born on the voyage. William had been engaged to work at Chelsworth, Victoria. William (1826-1883) had married Emma HURRELL (1830-1904) in 1847 at Ugborough, Devon. Their first choice for emigration had been Africa: Mary Ann was born in Jamaica, John was born in Capetown, William in The Gambia, Africa.
