Summary: 3 aboriginal languages were spoken in the Sydney area at the time of European settlement. On the South side of Botany Bay the language was Dharawal. From the north shore of Port Jackson along the coast as far as Tuggerah Lake the Kuringgai language was used. Between Port Jackson and Botany Bay the language is referred to as Dharug.

This booklet has lists of Dharug/English and English/Dharug words.
