Summary: James Phillip Webber (1797-1877) reached Newcastle on 'H.M. Elizabeth Henrietta' in January 1822. Webber was only 25 when he took up his first land grant at Tocal, near Paterson. He developed the property at a remarkable pace, producing wheat, barley, maize, tobacco, wool, beef and fruit. He was a foundation member of the Agricultural Society of New South Wales, and an early shareholder in the Bank of New South Wales.
