Summary: The Abbey of Holyrood was founded by King David I, for the reception of Canons regular of the order of St Augustine. Malcolm and Margaret, his royal parents, had set before him an example of liberality toward the church; but the munificance of their son far transcended that of his predecessors, and was never equaled by any prince that succeeded him on the Scottish throne.
