Summary: This book contains mainly emigrants from Upper and Lower Alsace, but also includes families who migrated through Alsace from Germany, Switzerland and other countries to the US. When Bismarck and his troops beat Emperor Napoleon II in 1871 the Alsace was taken over by Germany. At this time many inhabitants migrated because they did not want to be German. In 1891 it became French again and still remains to this day, except for German occupation 1940-1944.
