Summary: This is the story of John George Walker and his family who left his home in Wurtemberg, Germany, for Australia. It tells of the social and economic conditions in Germany at the time, and the impact of these on the Walker family. The major part of the book deals with the first four generations of the family in Australia especially their involvement with the settlement of the Darling Downs. Family trees are at the eand of the final chapter, and the family stories have been related to the social context of the times.
